Apple Core

This year our school will participate in the APPLE CORE program.  We will provide students with bookmarks to keep track of their reading minutes.

• Parents/Guardians help log the out-of-school time students read or are read to on the APPLE CORE bookmark. 

• Parents/Guardians initial one-fourth of an apple on the bookmark for every 15 minutes of reading completed. 

• Students write the titles of favorite books they read on the back of the bookmarks.

• Parents/Guardians sign the bookmark after 20 hours have been completed.

• Students submit their completed bookmarks to their teacher to sign.

• Students receive a prize and another bookmark to continue with the reading program. 

• Students who participate in Safekey are encouraged to read and earn minutes during Safekey.

• At the end of the school year, the schools with the most hours read per student average are awarded funding for their literacy programs. In addition, the students’ bookmarks are placed in a drawing for the opportunity to win tablets and bags of books.
