A reminder that the UNLV Voice and Choral Scholarship auditions are coming up in the next few weeks. For the first time in UNLV history we have DEDICATED CHORAL SCHOLARSHIPS just for students who want to sing in one our two "daytime" choirs: University Chorale (intermediate concert choir) and UNLV Singers (auditioned/advanced concert choir). The audition dates are:
Auditions require students to prepare a vocal solo (accompanist is provided by the university) and to sight-sing. Vocal technique and quality of sound is the main determining factor in securing a voice/opera scholarship. Literacy skill is the primary determining factors in securing a choral scholarship. All students who receive a scholarship offer must demonstrate the ability to sing in tune and with healthy vocal technique, regardless of voice size or color.
PRO TIP: The best advice I can offer for any student auditioning is to select music that they sing well rather than music that they think is technically impressive but that they don't sing well. Caro mio ben sung beautifully and musically is FAR more effective in securing a scholarship offer than singing a Puccini aria that is beyond the student's availability.
Every year we have significantly fewer auditioners than we have scholarship money available. Now, we have twice the scholarship money. I cannot award scholarships to students who don't audition. I want your students to sing with us after high school, regardless of their major.
Select "music major" for choral auditions, even if you're planning on doing a different degree.
UNLV tuition and fees is $9,300 a year for undergraduates taking 15 credits per semester. Even if your students are looking farther afield for study options, they ABSOLUTELY should make plans to audition for UNLV as one of their options. Our music educators have 100% placement rate and our music performance majors have a long track record of admission to strong graduate and young artist programs.
Please let me know if you have questions. Students can also contact me directly with questions about the audition process.

Hello Southern Nevada Choral Director!
I would very much appreciate it if you could remind your Senior Students who are interested in auditioning for Program Acceptance or Music Scholarship Consideration at UNR to go to this link and get their materials sent in.
If they are going to audition in person in Reno, they need to call the Music Office at 784-6145 and make an appointment for January 21.
If they are planning on sending a video audition, I'll need to receive those by February 1.
Students must send me the form accessible under Step Two of the link by February 1, whether they are auditioning live or via video.
The scholarship/audition form can be found at this link https://www.unr.edu/music/admissions/undergraduate-admissions which also includes everything from applying to UNR to finding guidelines for audition materials. If your student is having trouble finding anything, they can email me directly and I'll be glad to help them via email and/or set up a phone call.
Just a friendly reminder, students MUST audition in order to be accepted as a Music Major or Music Minor, or if they are going to be a non-major and non-minor and just want to audition for scholarship consideration.
Thank you for your support!
