Hawaii Trip 2025
Hawaii Trip 2025
The DOHS Choir Mission is to develop a musical community. Our belief is that before we can attain harmony, balance, and blend within our music, we must establish it with each other. To build and strengthen our musical performances, we have to build and strengthen our personal relationships within the group. We must create a safe atmosphere that encourages risk, growth, persistence, and a focus on excellence.
Mr. Michael Polutnik is the Director of Choirs at Desert Oasis High School in Southern Highlands, Las Vegas. Now in his 15th year at Desert Oasis, Mr. Polutnik celebrates his 31st year of teaching and 26th year in the Clark County School District. Under his direction, the Desert Oasis Choirs have earned consistent “Superior” ratings at choral festivals across Nevada, California, Arizona, New York, and Hawaii. The ensembles have also had the honor of performing twice at Carnegie Hall—most recently in March 2023.
A passionate advocate for choral music education, Mr. Polutnik has served as President of the Nevada American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and currently serves as Co-Chair of the CCSD High School Honor Choir, and Department Chair for the Desert Oasis Performing Arts Department since 2014. He has also served as both Nevada and Western Region ACDA Chair for Secondary Choral Repertoire & Standards.
During his first year at Desert Oasis in 2011, the Chamber Singers were selected for the NMEA All-State “Command Performance.” Mr. Polutnik has been honored with the CCSD “Distinguished Educator Award” (2003, 2016, 2017) and was a finalist for the “Heart of Education Award” in 2018, 2019, and 2022. Above all, he is deeply passionate about inspiring his students to share their love of music and excellence with the community.
