Q. What is dual credit?
A. Dual credit refers to classes that count for both high school and college credits.
Q. Would I only be taking dual credit classes at CSNHS?
A. No. Because CSNHS was founded upon the mission of being a transitional program from high school to college, we require our students to take some core classes with our high school teachers in addition to their CSN dual credit college classes.

A. Unfortunately, no. CSNHS is for Juniors and Seniors only.
Q. I am a Junior. Can I apply for CSNHS for next year?
A. Yes, you can. We do admit a select number of Seniors most years.
Q. Will I continue to take classes at my zoned or home school while I attend CSNHS?
A. Once you are accepted and agree to attend CSNHS, you will be withdrawn from your current high school and enrolled as a full-time College of Southern Nevada High School student. In rare cases, some students do continue to take an elective class at their home school if that school allows it and it works with their schedule. All core classes must be taken with our school.
Q. How many dual credit college classes will I take at CSNHS?
A. That's up to you! Let's break it down. Our program pays for twelve credits each semester for a total of 48 credits. The majority of CSN classes count for three credits, so typically we cover about 4 classes each semester. Students must take a minimum of two college classes each semester. Some kids only take two. Some kids take three or four. Some kids pay for additional credits and take five or even six classes in a semester. It's about how much you think you can manage.
Q. If I graduate from CSNHS, will I get an Associate Degree?
A. Not necessarily. An Associate Degree requires that you earn 60 college credits, which is the equivalent of about 20 classes. It's definitely a challenge, and about 30% of our graduates complete the requirements. In addition, students who want to earn their Associate Degree will need to pay for the additional 12 credits not covered by our program, although there may be some grant-based scholarship assistance available. If earning an Associate Degree while in our program is your goal, you will have a dedicated CSN Advisor in addition to your CSNHS counselor to assist with creating your degree plan and to offer support and guidance.
Q. What kind of dual credit classes can I take?
A. CSN offers a huge variety of classes. We typically advise students to follow a degree path based on their plans for the future and to take general education courses that will fulfill core college requirements. In addition, security call boxes are located throughout the campuses and students are asked to connect with the CSN Mobile Safety App in order to receive important safety alerts and and have instant access to campus safety resources and emergency contacts.
Q. What will my schedule be like at CSNHS?
A. Schedules vary for each student and at each campus. Our high school schedules are modeled after the CSN college schedule. High school classes do not start prior to 9:30 AM on any campus and do not end later than 5:00 PM. However, CSN classes are scheduled anywhere between 8:00 AM in the morning and 10:00 PM at night. Once your counselor creates your high school schedule, you are welcome to schedule your college classes whenever you like, as long as they don't conflict with your high school classes. That means you can finish your school day at 12:30 PM or start your school day at 12:30 PM. With careful planning, you can attend school 3 days a week instead of 5 days a week. This flexibility gives our students more of an opportunity to participate in sports, extracurricular and community activities, take care of family responsibilities and/or work part-time.
Q. How much will it cost for me to attend CSNHS?
A. If you stay within the allotted 12 credits each semester, you will only be responsible for potential additional course fees and your textbooks. The price of textbooks may vary, but you should plan on up to $300 each semester. There are some textbook assistance programs available, and a lot of options to save money by renting or buying used books. If you exceed 12 credits in a semester, you will be responsible for the cost of each credit additional credit above the allotted 12. Each lower division CSN credit currently costs $106.75. So, for example, if you were enrolled in 13 college credits in one semester, you would be responsible for the tuition price of 1 credit, which is $129.25. Our program does not pay for summer classes (although there may be opportunities for grant based scholarship assistance). In addition, students are responsible for the cost of any class in which they drop (after the designated CSN drop date), or in which they earn a D or F.

In addition, every May CSN has a Graduation Ceremony at the Thomas and Mack for any student who completes their graduation requirements or is approved to do so during the summer.
Q. Does CSNHS have any clubs?
A. Our club offerings are limited due to the small size of our faculty and staff. We do have an active Student Council and National Honor Society on each campus. In addition, as CSN students, you are welcome to join any club or organization offered through CSN, including Black Student Union, Computer Networking Club, Creative Writing Club, eCo Club, Latino Student Alliance Club, and National Society for Leadership and Success.
