Welcome to the Counselor's Corner

Marc Kahre Elementary School – Spring 2026 Edition “Planting seeds of kindness and watching our K-9s grow!”

Hello, Kahre Families! As we shake off the winter chill and head into Spring, our focus shifts to Growth and Resilience. Just as the flowers begin to bloom, we are encouraging our students to "bloom" by embracing challenges. This spring, let us focus on the Power of Yet—the idea that even if something is hard right now, we just haven't mastered it yet!

Focus: Growth Mindset & Perseverance

Our guidance lessons this month let us explore how to keep going even when things get tough.

Counselor’s Book of the Month: “The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes” by Mark Pett. This is a wonderful story for our students who feel pressure to be perfect. It teaches us that mistakes are actually where the magic of learning happens!  Look for it in the local library or buy a copy!

ROCK THE TEST: A Message for Our K-9s

As SBAC Testing begins on March 31st, it’s normal to feel a few "spring jitters." Remember: a test is just a snapshot of what you know right now—it doesn't measure your worth, your kindness, or your amazing potential!

To help stay calm and focused, try using a Power-Up Affirmation. Pick one that feels right for you and say it to yourself before the test starts.  (You can even write it on the top of your scratch paper as a mental anchor on testing days):

Parents: You can help at home by ensuring your student gets plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast. Let’s cheer them on as they show off everything they’ve learned this year!

Home Activity: The "Spring Growth" Check-In

During the car ride home, walk home, or at dinner, try asking your child these "Growth Mindset" questions:

Counselor’s Tip of the Month:

The "Mindful Minute": With the excitement of Spring Break and the end of the quarter, schedules can get busy. Take one minute a day to sit with your child, take three deep breaths together, and name one thing you are grateful for. It’s a simple way to reset the nervous system!

  Spring Break Self-Care Bingo

Below are a list of things that you can do during spring break!  As you complete them, cross them off your list!
