We are honored to celebrate the exceptional coaches who have a profoundly positive impact on the lives of our students.
The Student Athletic District Office is thrilled to highlight these remarkable leaders!
We are proud to nominate Coach Patricia Eliason for the Coaches Spotlight because she embodies professionalism, dedication, and passion in every aspect of her work as our Swimming and Cross Country coach. For over a decade she has coached at her alma mater, Coach Eliason has consistently fielded competitive teams while also serving as a model and mentor for other coaches on our campus. She masters the behind-the-scenes details such as paperwork and organization, but more importantly, she excels in building strong, positive team cultures that allow athletes to grow both in and out of competition. Her ability to connect with students, inspire them, and push them to reach their potential has left a lasting impact year after year. Coach Eliason’s longevity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to her athletes make her truly deserving of this recognition.
Coach Daren Stewart is truly deserving of this recognition because of his unwavering commitment to our students, his professionalism, and the positive example he sets every day. He consistently demonstrates integrity and resilience, regardless of the challenges he faces. Coach Stewart approaches every situation with a positive attitude and provides constructive feedback to his student-athletes in a way that encourages growth and confidence. Recently, when we faced unexpected issues with our gym floor, he pivoted seamlessly, taking the lead in directing our tournament at an alternate site with grace and professionalism. As a long-standing member of the Las Vegas High School community, Coach Stewart’s dedication extends beyond the court. His own children have participated in athletics at LVHS, and he has continually stepped up when our school needed him most.
Mr. Aziz is a Durango alumnus who teaches World History and helps coach the varsity football team. He bleeds purple and gold. He has a passion for motivating and encouraging students to persevere. No matter the time of day, you will see him smiling and expressing gratitude. He is ambitious and genuine. You would be hard-pressed to meet a nicer and more caring person than Mr. Aziz. Mr. Aziz was a three-sport athlete in high school and overcame insurmountable odds to graduate. By anyone's standards, he shouldn't have made it. His resilience is one of his strongest traits, forged in his youth as he struggled to stay focused on school and sports. He is a walking testimony.
Coach Khuon has demonstrated the highest level of integrity, leadership, and drive for the student athletes he coaches. His level of patience, despite not having a gym to run practice, is remarkable. Over the summer, he reached out to numerous schools to find space to bring his girls together for workouts. He traveled to Clark High School to conduct intramurals, worked closely with Clark HS staff to ensure the gym was maintained appropriately, and continued to provide opportunities for all students to succeed despite the construction upheaval at Cimarron-Memorial. At all times, Coach Khuon teaches his student-athletes the importance of sportsmanship both on and off the court. He emphasizes social media awareness and ensures that all student-athletes are held to the highest standards. It is evident that Coach Khuon raises the level of our volleyball programs to playoff contenders through his leadership and on-court instruction. The student-athletes all remark about his commitment and drive to help Cimarron-Memorial High School Volleyball be the best that it can possibly be.
Coach Holmes took the helm of the girls' basketball program last season and hasn't looked back. A Mojave alumna herself, no one serves our North Las Vegas community better than she. A former UNLV standout and professional player, she brings a wealth of knowledge back to her home campus. Role model doesn't begin to describe her. No one understands the needs of the student athletes at Mojave and passionately provides them. Mojave is proud to welcome her home.
Myers is the coach who is always in the building. He's here at night, in the summer, on weekends, working with kids to develop their skills. While his main sport is basketball and he serves as the boys' varsity assistant, his desire to serve the students at Mojave doesn't stop there. When we needed someone to take over the Swim program, he was the first to step up. In one season, he more than doubled the participants we had in years past.
