In order to qualify for financial aid, students need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Scholarships
What types of scholarships are there and how can I earn one?
The government, colleges, and private organizations provide monies to help students cover the costs of post-secondary education. Scholarships are generally offered to students who meet certain requirements. For example, scholarships may be based on students who demonstrate athletic talents or academic skills, who are members of a specific ethnic group, or whose parents work for a certain company. In addition, there are different types of scholarships including:
- College Scholarships-Scholarships given by a specific college. Check a specific college or university for potential scholarships.
- Local Scholarships-Specific to your town, school, etc. For a list of scholarships for CCSD students, see below.
- State Scholarships-Many states offer a limited number of scholarships to students who attend post-secondary schools in-state. Nevada offers both the Nevada Promise Scholarship and the Millenium Scholarship. For details, please see below.
- National Scholarships-These are competitive scholarships offered on a national level, such as the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Nevada Students
The State of Nevada provides financial support to Nevada's high school graduates who attend an eligible Nevada community college, state college, or university. A fact sheet on policy guidelines and requirements for eligibility can be obtained by calling 888-477-2667 or at http://www.nevadatreasurer.gov/

The Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship Program
In 1999, Governor Kenny Guinn’s Millennium Scholarship initiative was enacted into law by the Nevada Legislature. Section 396.911 of the Nevada Revised Statutes created the Millennium Scholarship Trust Fund to be administered by the State Treasurer. Later that year, the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Board of Regents adopted policy and procedure guidelines for the administration of the scholarship. Through the successful completion of a rigorous program of study at Nevada high schools, our state has seen a significant, positive impact – more than double the number of students are attending our colleges and universities since the program began.

The Public Education Foundation administers a variety of scholarships to help students pursue higher educational goals. In many cases, the scholarships make the college and university experience accessible to students who might not otherwise dream of a college education. The Public Education Foundation offers more than 260 different scholarship opportunities for Southern Nevada’s high school seniors to attend both in-state and out-of-state schools.
