PHYSICAL EDUCATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
Cell phones, iPods, or other electronic devices are not allowed in physical education whether you are dressed or not dressed, and WILL be confiscated and sent to the dean’s office. Coronado will not be responsible for lost or stolen items, so please do not bring them to P.E.
Wearing gym clothes over street clothes will result in a NON-DRESS.
Your gym clothes should be taken home at the end of the week to be washed.
Absences due to participation in approved school activities will not be assessed any point (or credit) deductions, but all tests must be made up.
No food or drink allowed in the P.E. at any time.
Lock combinations, missing locks and/or new locks must be obtained before the tardy bell rings.
Lost clothing will be held in the P.E. office for one school week, and then turned into the schools lost and found.
Students missing class points due to an EXCUSED non-dress or EXCUSED absence will be given the opportunity to make up those missed points.
Locker Room Conduct:
o The locker room doors will be locked when the late bell rings and no one will be permitted to enter afterwards.
o To prevent thefts, horseplay and vandalism, the locker rooms will be supervised. Students not following proper locker room conduct may lose locker room privileges.
o At the end of class, you must store your P.E. clothes in your assigned small locker. Do not share lockers with your friends, as problems may arise.
o If you lose your lock, see your teacher. You will have to pay for a replacement (this replacement lock MUST be purchased from the school banker for $10). Do NOT put personal locks on your locker – they will be removed and you will not be refunded.
o Teachers will not hold your valuables.
GRADING POLICY
Grades in Physical Education are comprised of participation in class and dressing out in a Coronado PE Uniform (If your student is not dressed in uniform, it is extremely hard to assess them). A maximum of 25 points can be earned each week. Each day students will have an opportunity to earn 5 points. Students with EXCUSED ABSENCES will be given the opportunity to make up their missed points by handwriting a one-page summary of a sports, exercise, or nutrition article. Turn in the completed work to your teacher as soon as possible after the absence occurs. Make-up work must be completed prior to the final week of the quarter after your absence occurred. Students subject to extended, excused non-dresses/absences will receive accommodations for recovery of missed points. Attendance, dressing, and participation are critical to a student’s success in Physical Education. The Physical Education staff will make every effort to see that each student has the opportunity to be successful. Students who do not dress for class will be subject to the following progressive discipline plan:
1st Non-Dress: Verbal Warning & Loss of Daily Points
2nd Non-Dress: Parent Notification (via Minor Behavior Infraction) & Loss of Daily Points
3rd Non-Dress: Parent Notification & Counselor Notification (via Minor Behavior Infraction) & Loss of Daily Points
Each Additional Non-Dress: Requested Parent Conference & Loss of Daily Points
Students failing the first quarter of a semester must achieve at least a “C” in the second quarter grading period in order to receive a passing grade for the semester.
MAKE-UP WORK POLICY
You can earn back points that have been lost due to an absence by turning in a one page, handwritten summary of a sports, exercise, or nutrition article for each day Summative assessment points can be made up during fitness assessment make-ups during the week. Please contact me if you have any further questions on how to complete make-up work.
Class Rules:
1. Follow directions and be prepared for class.
2. Respect all people and equipment in class.
3. No electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, games, etc.) in class.
4. Please do not bring food into class, gyms or locker rooms.
5. Please do not bring backpack or valuables to your physical education class.
Excused Notes (Parent and Medical):
A note from the parent is required each day a student is to be excused from participation in physical education because of illness or injury. If the student’s condition is serious enough to prevent him/her from participation for more than TWO consecutive school days, a note from the student’s physician will be required on the 3rd day of non-participation. Failure to obtain a note from a physician on the 3rd day will result in the student losing their class points for each day that they do not participate. A student whose injury of illness prevents their active participation in physical education may be asked to assist the instructor during the class period or they may be given a written assignment as an opportunity to earn their daily points. A student who has been advised by a physician not to participate in physical education for an extended period of time will be scheduled out of their physical education class as soon as possible. STUDENTS ARE STILL EXPECTED TO DRESS OUT WITH AN EXCUSED NOTE, UNLESS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
Assessments:
The semester exam will consist of a 2-2-2 fitness run assessment, online exam, and a lock/locker check. We will practice this run every other week throughout each semester.
