The body has acted as the enforcer of peace and security worldwide since its creation in 1945, famously acting as a peacekeeper in crises such as the North Korean invasion of South Korea, the active militant groups in Namibia in the 1960s that hindered the country's ability to have a democratic government, or later in the Sierra Leone Civil War. The overarching goals of the UNSC entail ensuring international collective security.
