In our first lesson, we often use the following questions to guide a discussion for our students when introducing the model:
1) What makes a hero?
2) Where do we find heroes?
3) Who are heroes that you know about?
4) How are heroes found in literature different from heroes you know about in real life?
Further along, this is the ultimate guiding question that you hope students will be able to answer after instruction:
5) What is the path of the hero and how is the monomyth portrayed in books, songs, movies, et cetera?
In addition, the goal of understanding and learning about the Monomyth is to see if students can apply the model to their own lives; identifying times when they can track their own Monomyth.
