In this course, participants will learn what digital citizenship is, how to teach students to be responsible digital citizens, and how to talk with students openly about cyberbullying and other potential pitfalls of social media. Participants will learn how to model digital citizenship and develop tools and lessons to use with students of all ages.
EDPD 5070-365 Utah’s Online Library: Secondary Grades - Online
This 6-week online class is designed to help secondary teachers and library media specialists effectively use the wealth of information resources in Utah’s Online Library to enrich their teaching and students’ learning. The course guides participants through using the many databases of newspapers, journals and magazines as well as encyclopedias, videos, music collections and more. Each week participants add on to a resource list, as well as explore project-based learning activities and effective research strategies that ensure students benefit from the Utah's Online Library resources as well.
EDPD 5514-370 Digital Portfolios for College and Career Readiness - Online
Help prepare your students for future endeavors in both the academic and professional setting by developing a digital portfolio. In this course we will explore resources for college and career research, resume writing, and college entrance essay writing practice. We will conclude by learning how to build a digital portfolio to showcase student achievement.
EDPD 5355-370 Blended Learning Methods - Online
Participants will learn about the different blended learning models and frameworks and how best to use digital tools in order to successfully integrate technology in the classroom. This course is designed to give participants an understanding of blended teaching and learning in order to convert past and new lessons to blended learning unit and lesson plans. Participants will learn about digital tools and how best to integrate them with their curriculum and the blended learning models and frameworks.
EDPD 5545-365 Sparking Curiosity and Creativity Using Genius Hour - Online
In this online course teachers will learn about the Genius Hour method to enrich their teaching and students’ learning. The course guides participants to encourage student inquiry through using research databases in Utah’s Online Library, composing and selecting good questions/topics, teaching research skills and strategies, planning and preparing to use Genius Hour in their own class. In the end participants will create and plan a Genius Hour Unit Plan they can use with their class.
EDPD 5100-365 Technology to Improve Student Research - Online
In this online course, teachers will learn how to use Utah’s Online Library to improve student research. Participants will learn how to use various databases to cite, organize, and research. Participants will explore strategies for using Utah’s Online Library and research tools to challenge and engage students and enhance learning. This course will focus on integrating the online research software NoodleTools into the research process.
EDPD 5500-368 Digital Photography in the Classroom - Online
This workshop introduces teachers to the use of digital cameras to enhance student learning. Participants learn basic skills in taking and editing digital photos while exploring how digital photography can be integrated into project-based lessons that engage students in curricula. In addition to gaining hands-on experience with digital cameras and free software for photo editing, participants create a multimedia project they can use in the classroom.
EDPD 5598-365 Engaging Online Learning with Canvas - Online
This six-week online course is an advanced Canvas course that will provide teachers a next step in using the Canvas LMS for online teaching and learning. Teachers will learn to use Canvas to create visual interactive homepages, enable and use the Learning Mastery Gradebook feature, build question banks, and use advanced features in Canvas Assignments and Graded Discussions. The final projectfor this online class will be a complete Canvas Course created by the participant that includes modules, activities, and "Canvabadges".
EDPD 5075-365 Utah’s Online Library: Research and Resources - Flex
This course guides K–12 teachers and library media specialists through the hundreds of thousands of digital resources licensed for educational use by Utah educators and learners. In addition to gaining familiarity with online databases included in Utah's Online Library, participants practice applying the Utah library media core curriculum’s six-step process for information problem-solving while sharing ideas for incorporating research and multimedia resources into lessons and projects for students.

This flex course will support school administrators and instructional coaches who are looking for ways to support the transformational use of educational technology in their schools and districts. Using the Canvas LMS, participants will learn various methods to provide blended and personalized professional development and learning opportunities for classroom teachers, staff, and faculty in their learning communities.

This course is designed for teachers who are looking to modernize their classrooms with a Learning Management System to support a "Blended Learning" environment or teach an online course. This course will only cover the use of the Canvas LMS.
EDPD 5335-365 Game-Based Learning and Gamification - Online
In this course students will learn how to effectively implement game-based learning and gamification in the classroom. The course provides a series of readings, resources, links, and video tutorials that explain what game-based learning and gamification are, why they are worth considering, and how to use them effectively. The course also covers a few examples of websites and other educational resources that can make game-based learning and gamification more practical in today’s classrooms. The course is divided into two parts: one that focuses on game-based learning and one that focuses on gamification.
EDPD 5950-365 Online Tools for Flexible Formative Assessments - Onlilne
Effective formative assessment can transform the teaching and learning experience and dramatically improve student learning outcomes. This course focuses on why formative assessment is importantand how to effectively use it in the classroom with the help of several online tools. The participants in this course will learn to use free assessment tools like Answer Garden, Padlet, Socrative, Kahoot!, ClassKick, and NearPod to help them formatively assess their students’ learning.
EDPD 5305-375 Teaching the 4 Cs Using iPads - Online
This 6-week online class will give educators the opportunity to explore apps and functionalities of iPads while focusing on teaching 21st Century Skills that will prepare students for the workforce and world that they will be entering. Using the 4 Cs (Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking), we will look at how iPads can be used as powerful tools to enhance the learning that is already taking place in the classroom.

Through this course, participants will use the training course that is available through Google to prepare themselves for the Level 1 Certification exam and reflect on what they are learning. Google’s education training center states: This certification is designed for educators and classroom teachers who wish to demonstrate proficiency in using Google for Education tools. The Level 1 status indicates that an educator is able to successfully implement G Suite for Education into their teaching practice in order to enhance teaching and learning

EDPD 5514-365 Apple Teacher iPad Badge - MOOC
Apple Teacher is a free professional development course designed by Apple in order to help teachers integrate the use of Apple products in the classroom. This course focuses on using the iPad in the classroom. In this course students will find the necessary links to get started with the Apple Teacher program, a thoughtful series of tutorials and resources, links for taking the Apple Teacher Quizzes to earn badges, and a place to submit a final iPad inspired lesson plan. This class will run in parallel to participation in the Apple Teacher Program. Although some supplemental material is linked from the Canvas Course, the majority of the content and all of the Badge earning quizzes are contained in the Apple Teacher program itself.

EDPD 5305-345 Mixed Reality for Education - In-Person
The “Mixed Reality for Education” in person class will provide educators with a sampling of emerging technologies including both augmented reality applications for portable devices, and a mix of virtual reality applications. By the end of the two day experience each participant will have learned the benefits of using 3-D enhanced resources to engage students. Through this understanding, each participant will also create and share a “redefined” classroom lesson that includes AR and/or VR student experiences.
EDPD 5100-390 Immersive Learning with Breakout EDU – In-Person
Designed for educators who want to step up student engagement while tackling the Four Cs of education (creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration). Breakout EDU is education’s spin on the escape room. In this 2-day course, educators will participate in multiple Breakout EDU learning games, explore the tools and resources needed to develop their own game, and learn modifications for every age, ability level and budget. Breakout EDU can be used with all content areas and ages.
EDPD 5120-365 Create Online Educational Media - In-Person
This course helps teachers find and create digital learning objects to support student learning using resources from UEN, including Utah’s Online Library, as well as online cloud computing sites like EDPuzzle, ToonDoo, and Factile. Participants practice 21st Century skills such as creating mashups, educational animations, interactives, games and more while exploring strategies for integrating digital media in ways that can increase student engagement and positive learning outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on the ethical use of source material.
EDPD 5285-350 Creating Critical Thinkers Through Coding - In-Person
Designed for non-computer programming educators who are interested in making coding part of their curriculum, either in regular classroom instruction or as part of an after school program. This online workshop will focus on improving students' critical thinking and problem solving skills utilizing coding activities, both unplugged and online. This course covers the basic concepts of coding and will teach participants beginning elements of the coding language Blockly. Additionally, educators will program various robots and other educational manipulatives.
EDPD 5355-341 Blended and Personalized Learning - In-Person
The focus of this course will be understanding the different blended learning models and frameworks. These will be explained and modeled in class in order to guide participants in understanding and developing their own blended learning materials. This course is designed to consist of two in-person sessions. This course will allow for reflection and group discussion and go more in detail on the different models/frameworks and digital tools that fit best with blended learning. In the end, participants will create a blended road map and unit/lesson plan that follows the blended learning models and frameworks.
EDPD 5550-370 Video Creation with iMovie - Flex
Learn how to create your own videos with Apple iMovie for Mac and iPad. In this one day in-person flex class participants will be introduced to the basic features of Apple’s video editing software “iMovie” that comes installed on all new Apple Computers, iPads, and iPhones. After guided practice on recording, editing, and publishing, participants will be given detailed instructions to create an original video for educational use. This final project will then be submitted online within one month. Teachers will also be invited to start the Apple Teacher Badge Program and earn the iMovie for Mac and iOS Badges.
EDPD 5455-370 Canvas for K-5 Classrooms - Flex
In this course, participants will be introduced to the basics of Canvas and how it can work effectively in a K-5 classroom. Elements of organization, communication, assignments, and grades will be addressed in regards to how this tool can be productively used to blend your classroom and use technology to engage students and increase learning.
EDPD 5590-343 Adobe Creative Tools - MOOC
Throughout this course, participants will use four of the training courses that are available through the Adobe Education Exchange to learn about the importance of creativity in the classroom. Participants will learn to use several Adobe creative tools, including Adobe Spark Post, Video, and Page, Adobe Premier Rush, and Adobe XD. As they learn these tools, they will consider how to effectively integrate them into the curriculum. Participants who complete this course will have earned enough points to be able to apply to be an Adobe Campus Leader (only active educators are eligible to be an A.C.L.). EDPD 5026-365 Apple Teacher Mac Badge - MOOC
In this course students will find the necessary links to get started with the Apple Teacher program, a thoughtful series of tutorials and resources, links for taking the Apple Teacher Quizzes to earn badges, and a place to submit a final Mac inspired lesson plan. Each module of this course has a Mac program specific badge to earn and a reflection to complete. Students will submit both pieces in order to advance from one module to the next.
EDPD 5590-370 Nearpod Certified Educator - MOOC
This course is designed to support a school or district implementation of Nearpod. Completing this course will enable teachers to utilize the Nearpod platform to deliver high-quality instruction easily. Understanding the basics of the Nearpod platform empowers those who use it to facilitate intentional and thoughtful engagement with curriculum through technology. The course will show how to navigate the features of Nearpod, but will also explore the ways in which teachers can employ "best practices" when using Nearpod with students. The ability to gather relevant real-time data will also be experienced in this course. Participants will learn how to use this data to drive current and future instruction. This course also includes opportunity to utilize Utah-specific resources through the Utah Education Network (UEN). These can be found in module 3b.
