Assessment of Kazakhstan Ultramafic-Mafic Complexes for CO2 Sequestration

Assessment of Kazakhstan Ultramafic-Mafic Complexes (Ophiolites and Basalts) for CO2 Sequestration: A Mineralogical and Geochemical Investigation for in situ Carbonation Processes and Implications for ex-situ applications

Funding: Chevron

The project’s main aim is to assess the enormous potential of CO2 mineralization ultramafic complexes in Kazakhstan and elsewhere throughout the world using petrography, geochemistry and other laboratory techniques. The project now is on it's initial stage.

Primary study areas: Kempersai massiff (Aktobe region), Balkhash area, Eastern Kazakhstan, Mangyshlak peninsula.

Co-PIs: Drs. Milovan Fustic, George Mathews, Randy Hazlett

International advisors: Dr. Benjamin Tutulo (University of Calgary)
