Structure and Energy in the Universe:
From interstellar clouds to cosmic explosions

May 13-15, 2026
We are pleased to welcome you to the conference “Structure and Energy in the Universe: from interstellar clouds to cosmic explosions” which brings together researchers from across astrophysics to examine how matter and energy shape a wide range of astrophysical environments. The meeting is designed as a dynamic forum for exchange between established experts and early-career scientists, working on the interstellar medium, star formation, and energetic astrophysical processes.
The scientific program will focus on the physical structure of the ISM, from filamentary networks to protostellar systems, and on the dynamic processes that regulate star formation, including magnetic fields, turbulence, and gravity. Observational and theoretical advances will be discussed alongside developments in instrumentation, polarimetric techniques, and multiwavelength observations. The conference will also address stellar feedback, high-energy phenomena, and stellar explosions, linking small-scale processes to their broader astrophysical context.
In addition to invited reviews and contributed talks, the conference will include a hands-on workshop on polarimetry specifically aimed at young scientists. This workshop will introduce fundamental concepts, observational strategies, calibration challenges, and data interpretation, providing early-career participants with practical skills and a deeper understanding of polarimetric observations across different wavelengths.
· Structure of the interstellar medium, from filaments to protostars
· Dynamical processes in star formation, including magnetic fields and turbulence
· Stellar feedback, high-energy processes, and stellar explosions
· Instrumentation, observations, and polarimetry
· Open questions and future directions in ISM and star formation research
We look forward to an engaging and collaborative meeting that strengthens scientific exchange and stimulates new connections within the community.

Visa Information
Kazakhstan maintains a traveler-friendly visa regime, offering visa-free entry to citizens of many countries.
Visa-Free Entry: Citizens of over 80 countries can enter Kazakhstan without a visa for stays ranging from 14 to 90 days.
14 Days: Typically applies to citizens of India and Iran.
30 Days: Applies to citizens of the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, China and most EU/OECD countries.
90 Days: Generally applies to citizens of EAEU and CIS countries (e.g., Armenia, Belarus, Russia).
If your country is not on the visa-free list, you may be eligible for a single-entry Visa (Business or Tourist). This requires an invitation number from the host organization.
Registration: Upon arrival, if you are staying at a hotel, the staff will typically handle any further registration requirements on your behalf.
Note: Please verify the specific requirements for your nationality via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan or your local Kazakh Embassy before booking.
Airport Access
Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) is located approximately 10 km (15 minutes) from Nazarbayev University.
Taxi (Recommended): The most convenient way to reach the university or your hotel is by taxi. We recommend using the Yandex Go or Uber KZ apps (a Kazakh phone number may be required for registration) for reliable service and fixed pricing. A ride to the NU campus typically costs between 1,500 – 3,000 KZT ($3–$6 USD).
Public Bus: Bus No. 10: This routes run frequently from the airport and stop directly at the "Nazarbayev University" station on Qabanbay Batyr Avenue.
Private Transfer: Many international hotels offer airport shuttle services for a surcharge.
