As an instructor, I am teaching three courses in Academic year 2024/25 at Nazarbayev University. If you have any specific questions about course topics, feel free to message me.
This course provides an understanding of core concepts and empirical analysis in finance. The course starts with the theoretical aspects and then involves the management of empirical datasets and the aspects of quantitative applications of finance theory. The goal is for the student to have an understanding of the capital markets and deal with the need to analyze complex and large financial and economic datasets. The scope of the data as well as the quantitative methods used in such analysis often requires familiarity with robust computational environments and statistical packages.

This course is an introductory undergraduate course that teaches the fundamentals of microeconomics. We study supply and demand and the forces that determine an equilibrium in a market economy. We go behind the demand curve to learn about consumer behavior and analyze consumer decisions. We go behind the supply curve to see how firms choose their production levels to maximize profits. We further study market failures such as imperfect competition (monopoly, oligopoly).
