The NTDSE Nurse’s Office is here to support the health and well-being of all our NTDSE students, with Registered Nurses available to provide first aid, administer daily physician-prescribed medication, and support student medical conditions and health plans. Sickness and School Attendance
Please keep your student home if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness.
When to Keep Your Child Home from School
Students should remain at home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
Temperature of 99.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Persistent or deep cough
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Strep throat
Unidentified rash
Students experiencing fever, vomiting, or diarrhea must remain symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school without fever-reducing medication. A physician’s note may be required if a child misses three consecutive school days.
Attendance report
If a student is absent, a parent or guardian must notify the NTDSE Nurse’s Office by calling 847-966-8600 or emailing schoolnurse@ntdse.org.
Parents or guardians may also inform the student's teachers or the school directly regarding the absence.
Student Health Information
Students with an action plan or diagnosis who need to take medication at school should contact the NTDSE Nurse’s Office.
Students with Allergies: Food Allergies Action Plan, School Medication Authorization
Students with Asthma: Asthma Action Plan, School Medication Authorization
Students with Epilepsy: Seizure Action Plan, School Medication Authorization
Students with Diabetes: DMMP(Diabetes management plan from physician’s office), School Medication Authorization
Students with Diabetes
If your child has diabetes, a Diabetes Management Plan (DMMP) must be submitted to the NTDSE Nurse’s Office. Parents or guardians are responsible for:
Promptly informing the school of any changes to the DMMP.
Promptly updating emergency contact numbers or healthcare provider contact numbers.
Signing the DMMP.
Parents or guardians may authorize designated District representatives to communicate with the healthcare provider regarding the DMMP.
Medication At School
Any student requiring medication at school must complete a medication authorization form for each medication and have these forms signed by a doctor. All medication must be in its original, labeled packaging and not expired.
Special Health Needs and Services
All medical procedures outlined below, as well as any additional medical interventions, require authorization from both a physician and a parent or guardian. A Physician Authorization for Administration of Treatment form must be completed and updated annually or whenever changes occur. Parents or guardians are responsible for providing the necessary supplies for each procedure and ensuring that these supplies are cleaned, disinfected, and maintained as required.
Gastrostomy Tube Feedings
When gastrostomy tube feedings are necessary to provide nutrition, hydration, or medication during the school day, a Registered Nurse or designated school staff trained by school nurses will perform the procedure.
G-tube Feeding Physician Order

Tracheostomy Care
When a student has a tracheostomy that requires care throughout the school day, a Registered Nurse who is trained and familiar with tracheostomy care will provide this care.
Tracheostomy and/or Ventilator Physician Order

Deep Suction
If a student requires deep suctioning during the school day, it will be conducted by a Registered Nurse.
Specialized Medical Health Care Services Physician Order

Catheterization
If a student requires intermittent catheterization during the school day, a Registered Nurse or designated school staff trained by the school nurses will perform the procedure.
