Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, also known as, BenCab was born in the Philippines On April 10, 1942, Democrito Cabrera and Isabel Reyes had BenCab at Malabon, Philippines. The youngest of nine children, he was young. BenCab's older brother Salvador, who was already a renowned artist when BenCab was a child, was the source of his first exposure to and discovery of the arts. In 2006, he received the National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts (Painting) award. Of his generation of Filipino painters, he has reportedly sold the most paintings, according to reports. BenCab started painting on walls and sidewalks when he was seven years old. BenCab continued to pursue his love in the artistic arts during high school and created portraits and illustrations for his classmates.
BenCab entered the College of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines in 1959 after being accepted as one of the Castro scholarship's five finalists. BenCab experimented with various forms of art during his schooling, including printmaking and photography.
Possibly Bencab's most recognizable piece is Sabel. BenCab met Sabel, a homeless Filipino woman, in 1964. The artist used to live in Bambang, where Sabel was a homeless wanderer who strolled the city's streets. The muse captivated the artist's attention as she went around searching for food while wearing improvised attire made of disposable plastic sheets. Many of BenCab's pieces let the clothing's fabric speak by itself. As may be seen in the picture, the cloth totally covers the human figure, exposing the true feelings.
Sabel's entire body is covered in a shimmering cloth, leaving only her face on display for the viewer to concentrate on. The wrap has a shiny appearance due to the white and gray combination, and the pleats are expertly captured. The artist has given Sabel, his original inspiration, a retroactive pardon by emphasizing his pleasant features. Her look and the vibrant background both show how happy she is with life's simplicity.
Looking solely at the components, the painting conveys a sense of tranquility while also expressing isolation and loneliness. In my situation, the artwork somehow makes me think of the times I felt betrayed and alone and that no one cared. On the other side, spending more time with the artwork may cause a lot of emotion to surface. Another sensation is lunacy. When you are unable to come up with anyone to talk to, you may feel as though you are going insane because you are unable to let all of your bottled-up ideas and emotions out. Sabel's facial expression conveyed the same kind of pain.
