Smokey Mountain
Smokey Mountain was a popular Filipino singing group formed by acclaimed musical director and composer Ryan Cayabyab. The group's members included Geneva Cruz, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Anna Fegi, Tony Lambino, James Coronel, Chedi Vergara, Shar Santos, and Jayson Angangan. Smokey Mountain was active from 1989-1995. It's been nearly 30 years after their debut.
Smokey Mountain debuted in 1989 with a concept inspired by the idea of local poverty and the mountains of garbage that the poor sort through to make a living, hence the name Smokey Mountain.
According to Smokey Mountain's first female member and original singer, Geneva Cruz, was only 12 years old when she recorded the group's debut single, "Kailan" in 1989.
Little did we know that the song wasn't supposed to be the first single of the four member group, with Jeffrey Hidalgo, James Coronel, and Tony Lambino.
It was the late lady boss of Universal Records, Bella Dy-Tan, who insisted that a love song should be the first single of the group.

Kailan composed by Smokey Mountain's mentor and songwriter, Ryan Cayabyab, become such a hit nationwide. Embracing Smokey Mountain's recording success at that time, when Cruz was such a very young age, and was a headscratscher for her.
Kailan became a much requested and popular song on the radio. The song is something that will permanently identified to Cruz, the group's most recognizable and most popular member.
Kailan was followed by other songs of Smokey Mountain that became popular and successful singles too.
The song Kailan is mostly about unrequited love. It's about a girl who likes a guy that she still doesn't know the name of. It's a song about introductions and mostly young love. It brings to mind highschool crushes and those innocent times when you put the picture of your love in your notebooks, bump into him in school hallways, and just wonder when will he finally notice me or in Filipino "Kailan moko mapapansin".
This song Kailan helps me during pandemic to reduce my stress and it's make me reminisce about my highschool crushes during that time and this song is such a hopelessly romantic.
