The premise for this competition is simple: Write 150 words of description set in a significant point in history. This can be ANY historical moment; from ANY era; in ANY place. The time-period must be clear and, if you have a character, they can be fictitious to an extent. We can have anything from an argumentative ancient Egyptian to a savage Saxon barbarian - it is up to you!

Your task is to write an opening of a dystopian or sci-fi story to match with our theme and genre of our most recent podcast: The Vanishing Deep.

It must be clear that your opening links in some way to the dystopian/sci-fi narrative and it must engage the reader immediately.
