WELCOME to ELA at TVA!

This is where we discover all sorts of different worlds and travel to places we think that could never exist.

In all classes grades 9-12 we focus on basic English Language Art Standards: spelling, grammar, punctuation, comprehension, reading, writing. HOWEVER, the BEST part of each grade we explore a variety of genre's and topics!

Grade 9: Identity

Students will explore different styles of literature that explore how an author and/or character's express their personal identity. They will be able to make personal connections within their own identity through the text and express them though a variety of ways.

Grade 10: Societal/Global Perspective

Students will have the opportunity to read, discuss and write about subjects that have impacted communities that they may not have been introduced to before. These topics include fictional and non-fictional literature and are offered the opportunity to express connections with these stories and the impacts it has had on the current status of our overall culture throughout the world. Students will also participate in ELA MCAS prep. 


Grade 11: American Literature

Students will engage in activities and discover particular time periods in U.S. history through literature. They will be given the opportunity to read and research about pivotal times in U.S. history and analyze an author's point of view which may differ from their very own perspective of the development of America.

Grade 12: British Literature

Students will read a variety of British literature ranging from poetry to dystopian themes. They will also learn how to produce research based written assignments on a particular topic of interest.
