SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college, and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. Formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America), SkillsUSA is the largest organization whose purpose is to serve students preparing for technical, skilled, and service careers.
In our SkillsUSA chapter, we participate in a variety of things. At the beginning of the year, we like to hold a kickoff event with the goal of interacting and learning more about our new members. Then, we turn our focus to making our homecoming float. This event is both fun and important. It gives our members the opportunity to see how well they work together with a new group of people for the first time. Every year, our chapter has donated various toys to Toys 4 Tots (a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas) which is something we begin working on after homecoming. We usually make anything frong toy cars to stuffed animals. After the holidays, we begin our preparations for state, which is held in April at Fonner Park in Grand Island. At state, high school, college and middle school students from around Nebraska come together to test their skills against their fellow SkillsUSA Nebraska members. There are 107 competitions to choose from, meaning that the is something for everyone to enjoy. To prepare our members to the best of our ability, we communicate with professionals who are more than willing to work one on one with our members. These are only some of the thing we do in our chapter. We would love for you to join and see what all our chapter has to offer!
