03/12/21: No New Target Date Yet
At the most recent Board meeting on March 10, 2021, the Governing Board reviewed the feasibility of offering in-person instruction; and decided that it was still too early to set a new target date for hybrid reopening.

02/26/21: Case Rates Still High
Elementary schools in counties that are in the “Red Tier” (with case rates below 7 new cases per 100,000 per day) are eligible for reopening. San Diego is still in the “Purple Tier” at 15 new cases/100,000. National City’s case rate is currently 30.7/100,000. This week the Governing Board met to discuss the current COVID-19 case rates in National City and decided that the case rates are still too high to predict a target date for safe reopening.Trustees will meet again on March 10, 2021 and will re-evaluate our re-opening status for hybrid instruction at that time. Please see the attached letter from Dr. Brady with important information: Letter to families.

01/29/21: New Guidance Prevents Reopening
New guidance from the State of California prohibits schools serving grades K-6 to reopen for in-person instruction in jurisdictions with case rates above 25 cases per 100,000 population per day. Thus, when the Governing Board met this week to discuss setting a new date for hybrid reopening, they decided to wait until the case rates are within a range in which to select a realistic target reopening date.
Please take a moment to read this important information from Dr. Brady: Letter to families

12/07/20: Regional Stay-At-Home Order
In addition, this weekend, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a regional stay-at-home order for many businesses and industries in San Diego County that will last for at least three weeks. The order is an effort to slow the spread of Coronavirus in areas where intensive care units (ICU) are impacted by rising cases. This applies to San Diego. Under these new conditions, National School District will continue our current distance learning program.

10/15/20: Hybrid Instructional Model Begins January 11, 2021
Last night the Governing Board made a decision to delay the start of the hybrid instructional model until January 11, 2021. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution primarily due to current COVID–19 case rates in the South Bay community.
During the meeting, the Governing Board also acknowledged the necessity to address specific needs of students that require in-person support. Therefore, we hope to be able to bring back small cohorts of students who are more in need of in person services before the official start of hybrid instruction. This could include students struggling with distance learning, students needing social emotional support, and/or students with special needs.
Finally, we know that this pandemic has been extremely difficult on all families, especially those of essential workers in need of childcare. Consequently, we are currently exploring options to address this concern as well. More information will be forthcoming as details become available.
Thank you all for your continued patience as we respond to changing conditions during these dynamic times.

05/08/20: Grading Policy During COVID-19
After careful consideration of the challenges associated with the shift to distance learning, and in consultation with the teachers’ association, our students will not receive official grades for the final trimester. However, through our distance learning classrooms, students will continue to receive feedback and guidance on their understanding of essential grade level standards from their teacher.
Additionally, in accordance with our Board policy (AR 5121), students will receive a report card at the end of this grading period. The report will be placed in your child’s educational cumulative folder. Unlike other years, however, no formal grades will accompany the last grading column on the report card, and a narrative in the comment box will explain the District’s “hold harmless” grading policy during this period of distance learning. All students will promote on to the next grade level as typically expected.
