Mrs. Ronkainen
Special Education Teacher and Coordinator
Mission: North Shore Community School excels in connecting our students' academics and learning with their natural and social environments in a nurturing community setting.
Hello and welcome to my classroom website! I am one of four Special Education Teachers at North Shore Community School. Currently, I teach half time and am the Special Education Coordinator the other half of the time. I have worked as a Special Educator at NSCS since January 2013 and have been the Special Education Coordinator since 2015. I love working at NSCS because of the strong community involvement and the wonderful staff and students I get to work with every day!
I live in Duluth with my husband Bryan and 2 year old daughter Piper. We love to walk on the lake walk when the weather is warmer and spend time with our family. I have a B.A.Sc. in Psychology, Special Education teaching licenses in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Behavior Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders. I have also recently completed my Masters in Education through Bethel University.
In my classroom, all students are accepted at the level they are at. I believe in holding students to high expectations and teaching them the skills they need to reach these high expectations. My students are responsible for their learning and take ownership of their learning by setting and tracking their learning goals. The concept of Growth Mindset is embedded in our daily lessons and students are celebrated for learning from mistakes, persevering through difficult tasks, being caring towards others, and problem solving. You can learn more about Growth Mindset by exploring the website below.
