The program is called, The Body Project, and if you are not familiar, it was designed for use with middle/high school girls with body image dissatisfaction (sadly, that means most middle/high school girls). This Body Project program was developed by psychologists and studies have shown it actually prevents eating disorders. This is not a good group for someone who has already been diagnosed with an eating disorder, but rather someone who experiences body dissatisfaction. Body Project is a group-based intervention that provides a forum for girls to confront unrealistic beauty ideals and engages them in the development of healthy body image through verbal, written, and behavioral exercises. The Body Project was developed by researchers at Stanford University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Oregon Research Institute, and has been delivered to over one million young women around the world.
Syracuse University is offering the 6-week intervention at no cost, and are hoping to begin running the group in late summer or early fall depending on group members’ availability. The format may be virtual or in person depending on preference of group members once we have the list. The more participants, the better. If you know of anyone else who might be interested, please pass along this information and/or contact
Heather Pierson or Program Director Dr. Afton Kapuscinski.
