Geometry Syllabus

Geometry                                                                                                Mrs. Crowley

Welcome to Geometry. This course is academically challenging and demands your most diligent effort. Preparation for class is an on-going process and will require daily attention. You will need to do homework daily, weekly, and over school vacations! Test preparation means studying in terms of hours! You MUST budget your time. The Math Department has a place for students to receive math help (Café 1 ) any period of the day including during lunch periods in the Library. This allows you to seek help/clarification with any assignment or content area topic that you may not understand. Additionally, I am available two days a week for after school help from 2:00 until 3:00 in my classroom (Room 308). I will post the days on the board when I am available.

NOTE: All students must take and pass the Geometry Common Core Regents exam in June.

Rules and Expectations

*It is expected that you will be on time for class. On time means you are in the classroom, in your assigned seat ready to begin.

*It is expected that you be prepared for class everyday.  Prepared means having all materials (pencil, notebook or binder with paper, homework, Chromebook, calculator, and agenda).

*It is expected that your behavior will be appropriate at all times. It is important that you follow these rules:

BE RESPECTFUL !  Show respect to everyone and everything. This includes a zero tolerance for any profanities in class.

   * Follow directions the first time they are given.

               * The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.

   * Leaving the classroom for any reason requires every student to have his or her agenda.

   * Only one student may leave the classroom (bathroom) at a time and it must be at an APPROPRIATE TIME. NO passes are allowed the last 10 minutes of class or the beginning 10 minutes of class.

   * Personal communication devices are to be put away during class, as they are a disruption to the learning environment. If I see them out or being used during class it will result in a referral.

   * Your grade is a reflection of your efforts! Do not look for extra credit to enhance your grade. Active participation in classroom activities is extremely important. Take responsibility for your education by asking questions and taking notes each day.

*Homework is given as reinforcement to the daily lesson. It is expected that you independently do your homework everyday. It is the most critical interactive component that you will do to ensure your understanding and knowledge of the topic(s) presented. Late homework will receive a ZERO!

Homework will be checked on a regular basis.  You will get:

·         + if all is done, with obvious effort

·         - if half is done

·         0 if none is done or no work is shown

(Students all have a green card that allows for one assignment to be turned in late for full credit, each marking period)

*You will need for this Geometry Class the following:

   1.  Separate folder or binder

   2.  Pen or pencil

   3.  Calculator (TI-nspire)

  4. Compass (required for homework!)

  5. Colored high lighters

*Major exams (unit and midterm) will be announced in advanced to provide you time to study. Quizzes may or may not be announced, so be prepared each day.

*Grading is on a percent basis. In general, the following percents are assigned:

     Homework/Classwork. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .10%

     Cumulative Review Sheet. . . . . . . . . . . . . .10%

      Quizzes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .   35%

     Unit Test . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . 45%

*When you are absent from class, you are responsible to get any homework assignment(s) that you missed from the absent folder located in the filing bin.  You are also responsible for going onto google classroom , watching the material you missed, taking the notes, and making up the work.  You are expected to see me the following day after you return to school (even if you do not have math class) to schedule a time and date to make up tests or quizzes.  Work not made up within two days will receive a zero.  If work is not made up within a week it will become a zero!
