Welcome to Classroom!

This year we will be using Google Classroom in Social Studies. Google Classroom is a free and secure learning network for teachers, students, and schools. It provides a safe way for us to connect, share content, access homework, participate in discussions and receive class information.

Google Classroom is accessible online and through any mobile device with Internet capabilities – including free apps for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices. Students can access their account from any mobile device.

Google Classroom will not be used as a social network like Facebook or MySpace. This tool will be used strictly for educational purposes using the following guidelines:

Students will be required to use appropriate grammar instead of texting language
Google Classroom does not allow private student-to-student messaging- the site will be used to discuss school-related content only. As the teacher, I get email notifications of all comments. I can delete a comment or mute a student whenever I deem necessary.
School rules still apply! No put-downs or sarcasm toward another’s ideas. All school rules and consequences related to harassment apply

Students who violate the guidelines above may face disciplinary action and/or face losing the privilege of using Google Classroom.

Code of Conduct

1. I will use posts to discuss school-related content only.

2. I will use a respectful tone of voice when posting. All school rules and consequences related to harassment apply.

3. I will use appropriate grammar instead of texting language

4. I will not post photos or videos showing myself or classmates without permission.

5. I will not reveal any personal information on Google Classroom. This includes telephone numbers, addresses, emails, etc...

6. I will use a school appropriate avatar/picture for my profile picture.

7. If I am aware of someone being inappropriate on the site, I will tell the teacher, a parent and/or an adult ASAP!

Guidelines

Posting Messages

Post a note to the whole group if your question is about something the whole group should know (assignments, instructions, dates etc.)
Send a note only to your teacher if you want to talk about something that doesn’t relate to everyone.
Don’t post personal questions to the group.
Keep conversations on topic.
If you’re not sure if a word or joke is okay, then it’s probably not. Refrain from posts that tease, bully, annoy, or gossip about any other member.

Replying to Messages

Do not answer a question if you aren’t sure you know the answer.
Do not reply to a question if someone has already answered it correctly.

Groups

If you think there is something inappropriate posted in Classroom , tell a teacher immediately. (FYI your teacher gets notifications of comments, but it is always best to make sure they have seen something if it is inappropriate)

Punctuation & Grammar (some examples on what not to do)

No “txting” lingo. “We r ur teachers”…show us that “u” have learned how “2” spell.
DO NOT PUT SENTENCES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
DO NOT end sentences with more than one exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or question mark????????????
Please please please do not repeat a word more than necessary.
