This Proficiency Language Ladder is introduced when students explore (and revisit) the meaning of proficiency and the characteristics of being a language learner. They become more independent as they rely on their skills and each other to level up their language skills.
Moreover, teachers must invest time in demonstrating how students can “level up” (move up) from one target to the next. This must be done more than once a year in an age-appropriate way. Just posting the chart will not magically “teach” students about becoming proficient. (Wellesley Public Schools)
