The 2024-2025 school year marks my 15th year teaching Science at the middle school level. I grew up as a military brat but eventually settled in Chelmsford where I graduated in 1998. I was lucky enough to be recruited to play basketball at Tufts University, where I ended up playing softball. After graduating from Tufts, I joined the Peace Corps and was placed on the Micronesian island of Palau as a Marine Resource Volunteer at the Palau International Coral Reef Center. When my time was up in the Peace Corps, it was off to the wilds of Alaska! I enjoyed many seasons collecting data aboard commercial fishing boats for the National Marine Fisheries Service as a Fisheries Observer. From there, I traveled to Northern California where I lead overnight wilderness trips for teenages during the summer of 2008. My last stint before my classroom adventures began was tracking tortoises in the Mojave Desert. I love getting students outside and collecting data that matters. I look forward to finding opportunities in our curriculum to do so.
When not in the classroom, you might find me mountain biking in Leominster State Forest, snowboarding at Wachusett Mountain, gardening at my Princeton home, playing dek hockey off Rt. 2 in Leominster or paddleboarding with my pup in Comet Pond in Hubbardston. I always look forward to the next adventure with my 15year old son, Holden, and our dog, Kit. Be sure to get out and experience nature with your family and friends. Pictures of your interesting observations are always appreciated and make for great conversations and teachable moments in class. My email address is ttrahan@nrsd.net.
