K- 2 Reading Specialists

Based on findings by the National Reading Panel that 74% of children who perform poorly in reading in 3rd grade continue to do so into high school, the New Providence school district began the reading specialist program for grades K- 2 in 2014. The goal of this program is for all students to achieve grade- level benchmarks in reading by the end of 2nd grade. To achieve this goal, Reading Specialists or special education co- teachers are present in each Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classroom during the reading block to support the needs of all learners.
