K-3 Art

Elementary Art

From Kindergarten through sixth grade, children are offered a planned, ongoing and systematic art program with varied experiences in mixed media emphasizing different skills and concepts. The curriculum will guide students through sequential, visual and creative processes to allow them to produce visual expressions to communicate their ideas, their culture and their environment, both real and imagined. Through creation, reflection and analysis, students will value art as a forum to communicate their ideas.

In addition to content-based knowledge and skills, this curriculum integrates the skills, knowledge, and expertise of 21st Century Learning as identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. Twenty-first Century Learning, when used in combination with standards-based content, ensures that students are prepared for success in today’s challenging environment. In this course, art connects children with the global past and present, enables an appreciation of other cultures and prepares students to contribute to the growth of their community and beyond.
