Deductions/Grading for Physical Education
All students start with 100 points in the trimester. There will be two skill groups/units introduced each trimester. This will account for eight grades, 50 points for each unit. There are four categories graded for each skill – preparation/participation, sportsmanship, knowledge and skill. If a student receives point deductions their letter grade will be adjusted and reflected on the report card. Grades are based on the following (per skill):
1. Prepared for Physical Education Class
All students must be wearing sneakers to participate.
Point Deductions for Being Unprepared:
- 4 pt. Deduction each time student is unprepared
Students are assessed on their level of participation and/or effort during class
Point deductions:
Minimal effort demonstrated - 3 points
No effort demonstrated - 5 points
2. Learn, practice and demonstrate skills in a variety of activities
Skills rubric:
Student Consistently Performs Skill Using Correct Technique = 5 points
Student Frequently Performs Skill Using Correct Technique = 4 points
Student Inconsistently Performs Skill Using Correct Technique = 3 points
Student Infrequently Performs Skill Using Correct Technique = 2 points
Student Rarely/Never Performs Skill Using Correct Technique = 1 point
3. Students must demonstrate Personal & Social Responsibility which includes the following:
Good Sportsmanship/Teamwork/Cooperation/Fair Play/Respect/Manners
Safely Participates and Uses Equipment properly to avoid injury to themselves and/or others
Point deductions;
1st Warning - 3 points
2nd Warning and any warning after during that class- 5 points
4. Knowledge Rubric: Demonstrates Knowledge of Activity/Classroom
Understands and Follows Classroom Guidelines and Procedures
Understands and Applies Rules & Strategies for Each Activity
All of the time: Full credit (10 points per semester)
Most of the time: 3/4 credit (8 points per semester)
Half ot the time: 1/2 credit (6 points per semester)
Quarter of the time: 1/4 credit (4 points per semester)
