All of my classes were given these rules at the beginning of the school year. My students are expected to follow these seven rules every day – occasional slip-ups happen, but repeated disregard of any one of these rules will result in consequences.
1. Follow directions the first time they are given. This rule is self-explanatory.
Hint for Rule #1: Today is the _____ day of school.
2. Speak in Spanish whenever possible! Puedes hacer todo lo que quieras hacer si te esfuerzas y te enfocas.
Hint for Rule #2: Es muy importante hablar en español cuando sea posible.
3. Be prepared to learn every day. This means mentally and physically.
Hint for Rule #3: …Are you ready for it?
4. Speak positively and with respect. This includes speaking positively of yourself!
Hint for Rule #4: Find out what it means to me!
5. Participation is power!
Hint for Rule #5: No time for sitting on the sidelines. You have to ___________!
6. Use technology appropriately and thoughtfully. This means no cellphone use in class unless you have a legitimate, documented reason to be checking it / having it visible and not put away during class. Also, with regard to iPad use, use apps that I approve of you using, and only when instructed to do so. Lastly, if you use Google Translate or any sort of Artificial Intelligence programs for an assignment without asking for permission to do so, you will receive a 0 grade for that assignment and there will be disciplinary action taken.
Hint for Rule #6: "OK! Here’s a hint for this game of Hangman: This rule is about showing respect and good manners in a digital environment."
7. Raise your hand and wait until you're called upon to speak. Don't call out or speak out of turn! Be respectful of your fellow classmates, of your teacher, and of yourself.
Hint for Rule #7: Levanta la mano…
8. Be on time!!!
Hint for Rule #8: ¿Qué hora es?
