Faithful coffee
You are unmatched,
Who else aids me
In wee hours of morning
And latest hours of night
Conducting renanimation
You open my eyes to the world
You put a smile on my face
And a pep in my step
I love you at your best:
A sweet iced latte
Sipped leisurely
Accompanied by a quiet contentment
And a good book
I love you at your worst:
Strong, bitterly black
With an unavoidable aftertaste of battery acid
Swallowed hastily running out the door
Only a scorched throat left to remember you by
Think of all we’ve gone through together
We’ve pulled all nighters
Gotten through several tech weeks
Survived AP testing
And more long days than there are stars in the sky
While we’ve taken some breaks
Our relationship endures
Just know that I miss you
My hands shake and head pounds
My brain, so quiet I’m forced to hear my thoughts
But I always come back to you
My constant companion
My rocket fuel
An ode just for you
Cycles of stars,
my tapestry marred,
light faded the Jaguar,
and left but a scar.
The planet that spins,
so effortlessly so,
brings with it the night,
darkness in tow.
The moon hangs above the endless abyss,
a necklace of pearls,
a wintery kiss.
Though I lay still,
watching the sky,
having done nothing but open my eyes,
she looks through my lies,
and whispers from above,
even now, that I still deserve love.
The night lays awake,
as I let myself break,
the winds sing a lullaby that dissolves the ache.
Another day will come,
as does the sun,
and I will arise,
my life newly begun...
