Involving parents in their children’s progress in the classroom has long been shown to significantly increase student outcomes. With parent engagement top of mind, we invite parents and their children in grades 4-8 to participate in our Back To School Learning Technologies Drop-In Session. Experience the ‘hands on’ ways parents can help their child succeed in the classroom, by using technology at home to enhance and support student learning.

Workshop 1: Mathematical Mindsets

Explore and experience web based mathematical tools that can help make student thinking visible. This hands on workshop will provide an opportunity for students to experience the variety of educational apps that assist and support all learners in the mathematical classroom. These apps and websites are all supported for Chromebooks, all mobile devices and laptops.

Workshop 2: Lego and Robotics

FIRST® LEGO® League gives teams of up to 10 students the chance to research a real-world challenge, then innovate and develop their own solution through designing, building, and coding.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound CDSB is proud to support FIRST Lego League teams across our schools for the upcoming seasons! Come and talk to current and previous teams (coaches and students), learn all about the program and see some LEGO Robotics in action!

Workshop 3: Using Technology as a Learning Strategy

With a focus on G-Suite for Education, this workshop will provide an understanding of how technology in the classroom can support students with learning difficulties, in particular Read & Write for Google Chrome. This session will highlight the functions of Read&Write, including speech-to-text, word prediction and more.

Workshop 4: Parent Engagement

Every year our children learn new ways to do their school work and prepare themselves for the future. In order to support families with current technology , we welcome you to a morning of learning and exploring. Bring your questions and your curiosity as we discover technology and answer questions about the tools our children are using to help them learn!
