What is NJHS all about?

NJHS is a service organization that helps build student leaders in our community, providing service for the Northbridge citizens and promoting scholarship. Our eligibility requirements are based on the five pillars of NJHS.

• Scholarship
  Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 90, B, 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. 

• Service
  This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.

• Leadership
  Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

• Character
  The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

• Citizenship
  The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement; has a high regard for freedom and justice; respects democracy; respects the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels; and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in activities such as scouting, community organizations, or school clubs.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement will have an opportunity to complete a form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, character, and citizenship. By laws will be updated in October, after the faculty council meets.

Eligibility Requirements (Applications available Monday 12/8 - Friday 12/19  Due 1/9/26)

• Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be in the second quarter of sixth or seventh grade.

• To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Northbridge Middle School.

• Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have: 

• 6th grade: A minimum cumulative average of 90.0% combining their content and Related Arts classes for first quarter and up to progress reports in second quarter (12/5).

• 7th grade: A minimum cumulative average of 90% for the 2024-2025 school year and the first quarter and second quarter mid term of the 2025-2026 school year for admission to the 2025-2026 school year NJHS. 

• A cumulative grade within 89.5-89.9 (2022 onward) will not be considered for acceptance into NJHS. 

Application Requirements:

• Candidates must submit teacher recommendation forms to NMS staff (or for sixth graders, a fifth grade NES teacher) by 12/19/25. (Staff will hand in these portions of the application through interoffice mail)

• Candidates must submit their completed application (all STUDENT parts - Section 4 and grade reports) to Mrs. Wermuth in rm 312 by 2:15 on 1/9/26.

Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and cumulative grade standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

December 19, 2025

Application parts 1-3 DUE to teachers.  Teachers will return this portion to the NJHS Advisor.

Sixth grade students using a fifth grade teacher will need to bring the form to the teacher at NES.  Teachers will return the form to the NJHS Advisor through interoffice mail.

December 15, 2025

Optional application assistance meeting rm 312 2:00 - 2:30 pm.

January 9, 2026

Completed applications due in room 312 (Mrs. Wermuth) by 2:15 pm. Late or Incomplete applications will NOT be reviewed for acceptance. *Applying does not guarantee acceptance.

Faculty Council will meet to review applications.

January 26 - 30, 2026

Students are informed of acceptance decision. Letter will be sent home.

February 3, 2026

Mandatory Rehearsal 2-3:00 pm NMS Auditorium

New member induction ceremony and reception NMS Auditorium 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Ceremony begins at 6:30, with refreshments following
