Click here for information on this year's Space Camp. which will be held February 19-22, 2019 from 8 AM - 12 PM at Northbridge High School. The students will complete engineering challenges and learn about reverse design while using a 3D scanner and printer. Space Camp is co-sponsored by Northbridge Science Club & Nipmuc Regional HS NASA ICED Club. Registration is open to students in grades 5 through 8! Spots are limited and assigned on a first come first serve basis. Read below for information about last year's Space Camp.
Mission binder cover given to each student. They personalized by creating a mission patch and pasting it on.
We ran a successful Space Camp during February 2018 school vacation week where the students. 15 middle school students (5th-8th graders) participated . They were great to work with and so excited to have some of the NASA ICED class students to mentor them throughout the week. It was wonderful to watch the teams gel through the team building challenges. They video conferenced Dr. Camarda on Tuesday and were challenged to build a heat shield for entry into Martian atmosphere. They worked so hard on the challenge and had lots of fun in the process. The students were so proud of their work that when Dr. Camarda came to see them on Friday they wanted to demonstrate how their heat shields actually performed. Dr. Camarda was so happy with their efforts and enthusiasm he fed off of it and made the experience even more enriching for the students. In addition to the engineering challenge, they learned some CAD and used it to design their own keychain name tag which our 3D printer team printed out for them. They also learned about Mars and how it formed in a soil layer activity. I have included links to the photos albums I shared with the students and their parents after each day.
