Why Here, Why Now, Why a CLUB?
I have been interested in starting a school newspaper ever since I was in middle school. Unfortunately, with the lack of funds and materials, the school newspaper club would be a fantasy if not for Ms. Selimgir. She takes the opportunity to open a Newspaper Club for middle schoolers as soon as the funds become available. It is because of her that my dream has come true. When I heard the announcement that there would be a school newspaper club, I was overjoyed. My parents signed the permission slip immediately, and I found myself in the company of fellow journalists no later than September 15, 2023. My vision of the future was finally a reality and I hope that I will continue to work with my journalist colleagues for many days to come.
I know that some of you who enjoy hanging out with friends, playing video games and sleeping after school are in need of something more. What is it? The answer: clubs. Students should join clubs in order to lead an extremely successful life. It will help you get into the high school of your choice. Take the debate team for example, most high schools are interested in debater students and will welcome you with open arms. Sports aren’t everything, in fact, you can only get into schools sports-wise if you are extremely good at sports and meet high expectations. However, in clubs like debate, rock band, and the newly- formed newspaper club, you can improve more easily and you do not have to meet demands that sports and other physical activities require of you. If not high school, then clubs will help you in adult life. Jobs today require skills that can only be achieved through years and years of studying and hard work. If you were to join a club, it would be much easier to get the job of your dreams and take a few years of studying. Clubs can even help you today, by presenting skills that make assignments much easier to complete. The more clubs you join, the more good things will come to you and your school life. For instance, the newspaper club can help you with writing skills and creativity.
Now, it’s up to you whether you choose to join a club or not and your choice will forever impact your life for many years to come. I understand that clubs can be time consuming and the experience has potential disappointment, but it will be worth the while, I know so from experience.
