Empowering Policies in the Age of Augmented Leadership and Learning - Char Shryock

Writing, evaluating and implementing empowering AI technology policies starts with looking  through a lens of opportunity vs a lens of cheating/plagiarism.  This session will focus on creating or revising policy that encourage the safe, efficient, and innovative use of AI tools, including Generative AI.  Well written policy provides clear definitions, is aligned to district vision, and includes guidance on positive, appropriate, technology use. FERPA, COPPA, and equitable access to technology will be discussed, along with the importance of student data privacy. Policy helps augmented leaders by effective role models.

Grounding AI Exploration: From Fundamentals to Practical Applications - Kara Ball

"Join us for a comprehensive session diving into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. We'll start by establishing a solid foundation through a grounding session, where we'll delve into the historical significance of AI in our daily lives. Addressing common concerns and misconceptions, fostering a balanced perspective on its role in education. 

During this session attendees will gain essential knowledge about AI, demystifying terminology and key concepts. We'll explore the rationale behind integrating AI into the classroom and encourage an open approach to its implementation, moving beyond initial reactions to embrace its potential benefits.

In the second half of this session participants will engage in hands-on exploration with ChatGPT. This interactive workshop focuses on enhancing familiarity and proficiency with ChatGPT through practical exercises. Attendees will discover how ChatGPT can be applied as a teaching aid in classroom settings and to streamline various professional tasks. By the end of the session, participants will have learned strategies for incorporating ChatGPT into their teaching practices and optimizing its use for everyday challenges in an educational context."

As beneficial as AI is, it also comes with challenges and the potential for misuse. In this session we will explore tools and strategies to help monitor AI use, proper citation for AI generated content, ways to encourage positive use of AI in the classrooms, developing your own class set of AI guidelines for students, alternative assessment options, and more. Harnessing AI for Formative Instruction - Dave Shellhaas

Formative assessment and instruction are essential for increasing student learning and achievement.  Providing tools and instructional resources to effectively collect formative data, as well as providing instructional materials to respond to the data is a huge challenge for teachers.  This session will highlight how you can harness the power of AI tools to efficiently and effectively create these important  components of effective formative instruction.  At the end of the session you will use AI tools to create a formative probe and the supporting instructional resources necessary to address student needs as indicated by the results of that formative probe.

Prompt Design and Intro to AI Policy - Matthäus Huelse

This session, led by experts Katie Ritter, Ed.D., and Matthäus Huelse, delves into the intricacies of prompt design and it introduces the critical aspects of AI policy for schools. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of different Large Language Models, such as Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude, in order to learn how to effectively utilize AI tools through practical strategies and real-world applications. The workshop will cover essential topics such as prompt anatomy, AI glossary, and prompt tactics, offering attendees the skills to craft precise AI prompts and strategies to optimize AI outputs. We will discuss teacher specific use-cases, and applications, explore AI-powered tools for educators, and actively practice our prompting skills. Additionally, the session will address the ethical considerations and policy frameworks necessary for responsibly integrating AI into educational settings. Attendees will leave the session with a greater understanding of the role AI plays in the world of education, as well as practice actionable skills to help them accomplish more with less time, using AI.
