Penndale Library
Lost & Damaged Book Policy
We understand that books get lost and that things happen to them as they get bumped around in backpacks or read at home. Please read below to find our policies for damaged and lost books. Email Mrs. Walsh at walshal@npenn.org with questions.
Damaged Books:
Please do not repair books at home. Our library is stocked with specialized tapes and glues that will work best.
Students should return the damaged book directly into the librarian’s hands.
Books that can be repaired will not require a fine or replacement.
Books that are damaged beyond repair will require a replacement fine including water damage, missing pages, etc. even if the book is returned or damaged by someone other than the student (pet, sibling, etc.).
Lost Books:
If a book is lost, replacement fees can be paid in cash or a book can be purchased from the library’s Amazon wishlist to have a quick and often less expensive replacement than the library’s required book vendors.
If choosing to pay cash, please contact the librarian first so an accurate, up-to-date replacement cost for a book of the same binding (paperback vs. hardcover) can be assessed. Current prices are usually lower than what we have on record in our system (we always go with the lowest price).
Refunds will be issued for books which are later found/returned within the same school year. Funds are used over the summer to buy new copies, so refunds cannot be given after that point.
If you are experiencing financial hardship that makes a fine difficult to bear, please reach out to the librarian so an alternative can be worked out.
