Frequently Asked Questions

How many books can a student check out?

All A. M. Kulp students that do not have outstanding Library obligations may borrow print books.

Currently, students in grades K through 2 may borrow 1 book at a time and students in grades 3 through 6 may borrow up to 2 books at a time. Previously borrowed items must be returned before new books may be checked out.

What kind of books can a student choose to check out?

Students are encouraged to select books that speak to their curiosities and interests. Free choice of reading materials is an integral part of our program. We encourage all children to try to select one book they can read on their own (if they are able to read) and the others may be books that need to be read to them.

How long can a student keep their books and when do they return them?

Books should be brought back each library class, where they can either be returned or renewed if a student would like to have the book longer. Books not returned or renewed after two weeks are considered overdue. Overdue notices will be distributed to homerooms and students will be reminded during their library class of books that are due. If books are over a month overdue, student's library privileges may be limited and letters will be emailed to the student and/or their parent/guardian.

What if a book gets damaged or lost?

Please do not try to repair a damaged book at home. All repairs will be taken care of at school.

It is understood that accidents happen. The first time a student loses or damages a book beyond repair, it will be noted in the library checkout system. Any subsequent books that are lost and/or unable to be repaired will need to be replaced. A payment paper with the book title and cost of the book will be sent home. The fee will need to be paid before a new book can be selected. Cash payment is appreciated or a check (made payable to 'A. M. Kulp Home & School') can be sent in and a receipt will be sent home. If a lost book is found at a later time, please return the book. If it is found and returned still in good condition during the same school year in which it was lost, a refund will be remitted.

Do you accept donations?

Yes, any books that are still in good condition that you would like to donate can be dropped off. We will evaluate the books and determine if we will add them to our library collection. If we do not add them to our library collection, they will either be given to teachers for classroom use or donated to other places.
