Step 2: Balancing the Ensemble

Creating the best musical experience for your child!

"Too much of one thing and not enough of the other" does not provide the best quality of music.

What this means is it is our responsibility as teachers to balance the ensemble as best as possible This is why we require students to put down 2 instrument choices as if there are too many of one instrument we may look to the child's second choice.

Step 4: Wait...Your instrument should arrive in October. Mrs. Kershner will contact you to schedule your first lesson and receive your instrument.

General Information

Lessons:

Band class takes place once per week during the school day for 30 minutes. Lesson times rotate so that students do not always have lessons at the same time each day.
Beginner lessons will start in mid-October. Students will receive a letter to notify them when their first lesson is. I will go over the lesson schedule with them during their first lesson.
Students leave class with their regular teacher to attend band class in a small group. Students are held responsible for their own schedule and attendance.

Parent encouragement:

Students will need encouragement from their adults at home in order to be successful. Allow your child to practice daily and show you what they are learning!
Encourage your child to play their instrument for other friends and relatives over the phone or on video calls.
Home practice is necessary for your child to be successful on their instrument. A good goal is at least 15 minutes, 5 days per week.

Please make sure your instrument rental order includes an Standard of Excellence book and music stand.

Zeswitz will bring the instrument to the school for free.

Band Rehearsals:

All beginning band students will start attending Band rehearsals at Bridle Path Elementary School. Parents are responsible for transportation to Bridle Path and Knapp students will be transported to Knapp following each rehearsal via NP transportation. Here is the schedule for rehearsals:
- Building Band Rehearsals at Bridle Path starting at 7:30 AM for ALL Band students (we only have 4 rehearsals for this concert - all rehearsals are mandatory in order to perform in the concert)
- Tuesday, April 21, 2026
- Tuesday, April 28, 2026
- Tuesday, May 5, 2026
- Tuesday, May 12, 2026
- Friday, May 15, 2026 *rehearsal and assembly at Knapp - 8:00-10:00am
- Monday, May 18, 2026 *rehearsal and assembly at Bridle Path - 7:30-9:30am
- Monday, May 18, 2026 *Building Band Concert at Bridle Path - 7:00 PM - report time 6:30 in the Library
