English Language Arts
Nottingham’s Language Arts standards are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which focus on the following main areas:
Writing: The CCSS include 3 main types of writing: narrative, explanatory/informative and argumentative, building toward an emphasis on argumentative and developing skills on evidence-based writing and research.
Reading: Reading both literature and nonfiction texts.
Speaking & Listening: Comprehending, collaborating on, and presenting knowledge and ideas.
Language: Using the conventions of standard English in speaking and writing; grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
All 7th-graders will read Lois Lowry’s The Giver. In addition to the designated grade level novel studies, students will also read many short stories and non-fiction articles.
Social Studies
In grade 8, students will be learning about US History. We will be covering different conflicts in our nation's history, along with learning about the constitution, civics and government, economics and geography.

About me
I am very excited for another year at Nottingham! This will be my tenth year in education. I have taught a mix of sixth through eighth in both ELA and social studies. In my previous position, I took a step back from the classroom and was part of the Admin team as the Academic Dean. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed being back in the classroom working with students!
I have a BA in Social Science Secondary Education and a Master's in English Education. I am dual certified in both ELA and social studies.
