Happy Friday! The Library has been super busy in the last couple of weeks! We have been reading books about amazing women in honor of Women's History Month. We read Malala's Magic Pencil and then watched a video of Malala herself talking about her book. We also read The Librarian of Basra, which gave us the opportunity to talk about the Middle East and locate it on our globe.

This week we have lightened things up a little and read the book I am Not Just a Scribble and created our own scribble characters with sticker eyes and mouths from the publisher.

Kindergarten also had the opportunity to view a video about how pencils are made and have a virtual field trip to a pencil factory. Then they constructed Lego figures and recreated their method on a First, Next, Last worksheet.

The last couple of weeks, Ms. Lewis has been pairing fiction books with nonfiction videos about animals. Last week we read "Sergio Makes a Splash" which is about a penguin who can't swim, then we watched a video about how Emperor Penguins survive in the wild. This week, we are reading a book about Groundhog Day and watching a nonfiction video about groundhogs.

Since we finished Ladybug we have been reading some of the new books that came in during the month of December. We read A Big Mooncake for Little Star, Nothing Rhymes With Orange, and Fiona the Hippo. We watched a video from Fiona's first year so that we could make connections between the story and the real life Fiona.

So far this school year we have been working on the Ladybug Picture Book Award. For this award, 10 books are chosen and students from all over New Hampshire get to vote for their favorite book. We will be voting during Library classes in the first week of December.
