Grade 3

March 29, 2019

Third grade has been super busy working on dictionary skills in the library. We were fortunate enough to have every student receive a dictionary through the Rotary. We worked on guide word skills and a scavenger hunt using clue words.

Once we finished the dictionary work, we read Nerdy Birdy Tweets and talked about what we should and shouldn't do on social media, then created our own mini reminder.

This week we are making our own snowflakes using pattern blocks. Then, we are transferring the design to a sheet of white paper. This will be our last week of snowflakes, then we are moving on to Dictionary skills.

Our snowflake unit has continued with the science experiment "Snowflake in a Jar". Ask your students how it worked!

We have kicked off our snowflake unit! We started by reading Snowflake Bentley and discussing what life was like for him in the 1860's. Then we learned about Ken Lebbrecht, a physicist at Cal Tech who grows and photographs snowflakes in his lab. Next we created our own snowflakes using craft sticks, chenille stems, glue, tin foil, feathers and cotton swabs.
