About This Class:
I have structured this class to, somewhat, mirror a college class. Typically, in college, you won't have a class 5 days per week. Instead, you meet two or three days a week - but the expectation is that you work every day for that class. Furthermore, the expectation is that you are prepared for class daily. Therefore, we will have "traditional" class on Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursday/Fridays; Wednesdays will be "work days" (think of these as days you'd be in the library on campus working on class materials and such). There will be a few exceptions to this set-up, but you will be given ample warning of changes in the schedule.
On work days, you may have your airpods and listen to music if that is your preference; however, you will NOT be allowed to sleep, talk, scroll through or post on social media, nor may you work on work for other classes. This is non-negotiable.
College Writing is a College in High School course and I strongly recommend students consider this option. This class is significantly cheaper than a composition course you would take in college and the credits come from St. Vincent University. All necessary information for this can be found in the guidance office.
About Me:
I am so excited to be teaching College Writing again this year. As a parent of three current college students, and one college graduate, I have a unique perspective of what kind of writing is expected at the collegiate level today.
I am a mom to three (Mike, Drew, and Morgan) and stepmom to two (Aspen and Paige) - so my family is large and unique. My oldest graduated from the University of Mount Union with a degree in Elementary Education and is teaching 5th grade in Stafford County, Virginia. My stepdaughter Paige is a senior at IUP majoring in Interior Design. My son Drew is a sophomore swimmer at Bloomsburg University majoring in Marketing. My youngest is Morgan and she a freshman at Bloomsburg. My oldest stepdaughter, Aspen, is my stepdaughter from my first marriage and she is a doctor of physical therapy and a mom to Anastasia, who we think is the cutest baby EVER! She and her husband, Don, live in Indianapolis.
I am the head coach for the Monroeville Marlins, a swim team in Monroeville. I have coached for 21 years, although it has been club-only (no varsity) since 2010...until this year! This year, I am the Norwin Middle School swim coach. It will definitely be...interesting. Swimming is a major part of my life - all three of my kids were swimmers. Mike swam for 2 years in college and both Drew and Morgan are on a swim scholarships at BU...so, fair warning: you will probably hear me talk about swimming.
