How do students get to meet with Mrs. Watkins?
NES staff members can request that I meet with your child.
Parents may request I meet with their child via phone call or email.
I may need to meet with your child regarding various situations. Please know that I will only contact you if there is something that you need to know. Due to confidentiality, I am not always able to reach out to parents/guardians.
If your child is new to Norwayne, I will automatically call him/her down to my office to check in and meet them.
Your child may earn a lunch in my office!
Occasionally, I run small groups to help students work on skills that will benefit them both in the classroom and at home. If your child is one that may benefit from this, you will receive a letter from me to sign.
I facilitate several classroom guidance lessons throughout the school year. I meet with our preschool children once a week as well as our school age students in grades K-2. I see all of our students in grades 3-5 every other week. A list of common topics can be found in the classroom guidance tab.
This year I will be "piloting" something called the "Reflection Zone" with our 5th grade students. This is an opportunity for our students to participate in an individual or small group lesson that reteaches a specific behavioral skill that he/she may struggle with. The idea behind this is that a restorative practice can be more impactful and helpful for kids than a traditional consequence.
