RICHARDS’ REVIEW
Week of December 9-13 2024
MATH: We finished unit 5 Friday and will have a test on Tuesday. Unit 5 was short. We will move on to unit 6 and dive into area Wednesday.
LANGUAGE ARTS: This theme in unit 2 is more challenging, and the content of the stories is harder along with the vocabulary words. The boys and girls are invited to take their books home anytime they want, they don’t even have to ask. A test over Seasons Change will be Friday. A spelling test will be given on Thursday of this week. This will be the last spelling and reading test of the year before we return in 2025. Many of you are concerned about your child’s reading grade. The content is getting harder and we are doing more cold reads. The students are reading short stories on their own and answering the questions without any guidance or background of the story. It is important that they are reading and doing homework as much as they can on their own at home. When they are constantly reading out loud at home, it is hard for them to transition to reading silently at school on their own and answering questions without any guidance or help. The country reports are amazing, some have presented with posters and others did a slide show, but they are all doing such a wonderful job. When they do their own research without much help it shows, because they know all the information and can elaborate on it. Some are going even farther with their research and are making booklets and writing books. Way to go!! We are working with boys and girls from Mrs. Kaser's class on Christmas Readers Theaters. They are so cute and are doing amazing. We are hoping some other classes will want to see them the week before Christmas.
SOCIAL STUDIES: This week we will start looking at how Norton has changed over time. We will look at pictures of Norton from 200+ years ago and even look at some of the locations today we are all familiar with versus years ago when it was all farm land.
Gifts for our gift exchange are due Friday please. Many of you have already turned yours in and it is under the tree. If you need help purchasing a $6 GIFT please let me know. Remember to label it to a boy from your name or to a girl with your name.
