                                 RICHARDS’ REVIEW

                                                            Week of December 11-15, 2023

We only have 9 days left of the first semester and the second grading period.  All work must be turned in before the boys and girls leave for Winter break, December 21.

Language Arts:  This week we will begin a new story called Tornadoes.  This is a long story and we will read and discuss it all week and into next week as well.  The good news is there are only 6 vocabulary words that go with this story and we already discussed tornadoes when we read Storm Chasers.  A few skills we will be reviewing with this story are sequencing and cause and effect.  A quiz will be given over the story next week.  A spelling test will be on Friday, December 15.  The words are homophones and long O words.  Keep reading nightly, I know with the holidays approaching we get very busy, but please remember when we return in January the boys and girls will be taking their winter MAP testing and when they don’t read we sometimes see a decrease in their scores.

MATH:  The boys and girls did wonderful on unit 5 math test.  It was short and I think they liked using the multiplication table and figuring out the puzzles.  However, they will not always be able to use the table to help them.  A few boys and girls are struggling to learn their facts, and once we start getting into more division math will become harder and harder for them.  Please have them start practicing their facts.  See where they are on our timed tests and start with that number and work from there.  Unit 6 is short too.  We will finish unit 6 before break and have our test next week.  Unit 6 is all about finding the area of a shape.  The boys and girls seem to enjoy this, especially those that liked the math multiplication puzzles from last week.  It is all about figuring numbers out, for some they love the challenge.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will continue with natural resources, renewable and nonrenewable sources, manufacturing, mining and agriculture.  We will only switch for social studies and science this week twice because of our second lesson with Mrs. Weaver in guidance.

9 days of Christmas countdown started.  Check the paper daily to see what to wear.

Please send in the $6 gift before Tuesday, December 19 so I can see how many we have playing and can make appropriate arrangements as needed.
