My journey in the arts began with my mother who was an oil painter and a kindergarten teacher. I was always watching her paint. My dad was a pilot in the Navy for 33 yrs. He was away alot on many missions and aircraft carriers. I have 3 sisters...no brothers. I was pretty much the creative bug and loved the outdoors, and still do. I love animals, hence I have had dogs all my life. My escape is the woods, camping with my horse and dog. When the weather does not cooperate I am usually creating. I have used almost every type of art supply know to man. I have 3 degrees. A 2 year Associates of Commercial Arts Degree from Chabot College, Ca. I continued to get my Graphic Design Degree with a minor in Photography and drawing at the University of Akron which I pursued my k12 Certification in Visual Arts back in the early 80's. Then I taught at the Akron Public schools.
I then raised 4 very successful sons who all graduated college. They worked jobs, and pursued their dreams. My oldest and youngest sons became nurses, and my second son is a Graphic Designer. Son number 3 became a 4 yr State Wrestling champion and received a full scholarship playing football and is a Executive in Marketing. So I feel great that my mothering skills paid off.
I began teaching at Norton City Schools after my divorce in 1999. I have taught all grade levels/schools in Norton with the exception of Primary. People always ask me, “What is your favorite age level to teach?” With my years of experience with all ages (k-12), I enjoy the variety of having taught them all. Everyone can do Art. You just have to try and believe in yourself. Experiment and learn from your mistakes. Its a personal expression of yourself!
I have my own Art Studio #208(2nd floor) at White Rabbit Galleries, 571 W. Tuscarawas Ave, Barberton Ohio. Come visit my creative space on the weekends. Check their website for days/hours open. I offer workshops too.
I will always continue to be a lifelong learner that is why I am constantly attending workshops, via Museums, Galleries and Local/Social events in the communities where I live and work. There is always something new to learn or share with others.
