This course is crucial for any student wishing to pursue a career in Art and Design. Students of a wide range of abilities will be able to access the course and create rewarding work. The course is appropriate for anyone who enjoys making art, and learning about the work of other artists.
This unit runs from September in Year Ten until December in Year Eleven. The course is initially teacher-directed, but students gradually develop individual themes and ideas. There are four themes: Marine Life, Insects and Animals, Landscape and Objects, as well as a mock exam.
Students develop a visual response to one question from the exam paper in lessons, and produce a final outcome during a Ten Hour Test. The preparation time for the exam starts in January and continues until the start of the exam (usually in May).
Studying Art and Design is crucial for anyone who wishes to pursue any aspect of visual art in the future, through both further study or employment. This includes: advertising, graphic design, illustration, textiles, fashion, photography, television, theatre and film, architecture and teaching. GCSE Art will give you the skills needed for further education or employment including creativity, commitment, team work, confidence, leadership and dedication
