How will this subject benefit me?
History is a challenging yet engaging subject which gives you the opportunity to learn about some of the major events which have shaped our modern world. Our tailored course enables you to study different aspects of the past so that you can engage with key issues such as conflict, understand what drives change and how the past influences the present. With a diverse array of historical time periods, characters and developments, our History GCSE course will help you to build a strong chronological grasp of some of the key events in British, European and world history, as well as delving into the fascinating detail of past societies.
The History GCSE develops superb written and verbal communication skills, the ability to structure a coherent argument and the capacity to read and decipher source material. History is a well-respected and desirable subject for all Sixth Forms, universities and employers due the wide-ranging skill set it develops.

Who is this course appropriate for?
History GCSE is appropriate for anyone with an interest in the world around them and how it has developed to be what it is today. The course is accessible for students across the ability range but students should have a motivation to work hard and fully apply themselves. The course involves reading primary sources and historians' interpretations of the past, but you will be supported with how to do this!

2 hour exam at the end of Year 11
describing events from modern world history
explaining the impact of events on international history
writing extended answers that compare the significance of key events and key themes
analysing historical interpretations
analysing written and picture sources from the past
paper 2 - shaping the nation - 50%
2 hour exam at the end of Year 11
describing events and key individuals from the past
explaining the impact of events and key individuals in our national history
writing extended answers that compare the significance of key themes and key factors on the development of our national story
analysing historical interpretations
analysing written and picture sources from the past
researching and discussing in detail a particular site of historic importance
What opportunities will this give me?
This will allow you to progress to many professions such as Law and Journalism, as well as provide a route into many academic courses in the Sixth Form, including Politics, and A-Level History
