How will this subject benefit me?
Good literacy and communication skills are the foundation for every subject in the curriculum and for every future learning path and career. English Language GCSE students will extend their knowledge of the technical aspects of writing as well as develop their abilities to respond to a range of text types. They will be encouraged to read a range of texts to become critical and engaged thinkers.

How to read and analyse fiction and non-fiction texts
Speaking and Listening skills
How to respond to a range of texts from different periods and genres
Spelling, punctuation and grammar skills
Writing for a particular audience and purpose
Who is this course appropriate for?
All students will study this course and take the same two exams at the end of Year 11. The grades range from 9-1 (9 being the highest)
How will I be assessed?
exam paper one 50%
Section A - Four questions on an unseen fiction text
Section B - Descriptive or Narrative Writing
Exam Paper Two 50%
Section A - Four questions comparing two unseen non-fiction texts
Section B - Writing from a 'Point of View'
What opportunities will this give me?
The course offers students a good range of experience in English language and is the qualification all post 16 education providers and employers ask for.
